The ESA's Solar Orbiter reached inside the orbit of Mercury in March 2022, the closest planet to our Sun. In it first close approach to the Sun, the probe captured the chaotic encounter in dazzling detail. The Orbiter captured powerful flares, breathtaking views across the solar poles, and a mysterious but spectacular solar ‘hedgehog'.
